Fighting Irish Finish Off Miami Hurricanes

The Miami Hurricanes lost to Notre Dame 67-62 in a closely contested game at the Watsco center. The Fighting Irish spreading the ball out well with 15 assists total for the game. Miami was able to keep the score close, and even go to the half tied as well. Davon Reed had another amazing game with some great highlight moments for the Canes. He finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

It was a closely contested game in the second half. Miami had the lead with two and half minutes left, but could not contain Notre Dame’s inside scoring. Miami was defending the shot well, but had no help in the paint due to match ups problems. The Canes were playing small ball to match up with Notre Dame’s personnel on the floor, which led to less minutes for their defensive reserve Ebuka Izundu.

Miami was able to close a 11 point gap in the second half by defensively locking down their opponent. Miami finished with a season high 12 blocks and was also able to out rebound the opposition 47-38. The major factor seemed to be turnovers. Miami had 12 turnovers compared to Notre Dame’s 1. Davon reed said the team “didn’t take care of the ball late in the game. We didn’t execute the way we need to. I don’t think a lot of our turnovers we forced. Just not executing.”

Coach Larranaga said the turnovers are important to fix. “The game comes down to the little things. We turned the ball over at critical times in the game”. Two consecutive turnovers within the last minute sealed the victory for Notre Dame. He was pleased with the blocks and rebounds, but not with the end result of course.

Miami has its next game on the road against Pitt on January 14. The game is a 12:00 Noon tip and continues Miami’s ACC games. The next home game will be against Boston College on Wednesday January 25th with a 9:00pm tip off at the Watsco Center. Hope to see you there Natives.
